Yet another song that was originally written and demoed with different lyrics and melody under the name "Propheteers". I must say that I MUCH prefer the newer version of this song to the older, although I know some people disagree with me. This song has one of my favorite guitar tones on the album. This was recorded with my Ibanez Ghostrider, which has a single coil tap to get that thinner, yet dirty sound.
The vocal line in the bridge of the song was actually intended to be a placeholder until I had time to write something else, but it grew on us and we kept it. Our friend Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It., ex Damiera, Progress) has been playing live third guitar with us lately and has come up with a much cooler guitar lead line based on the melody there that I wish we could've gotten tracked. The background vocals in the chorus actually use lyrics from the demo version of this song, per request of Jeffro. He said he would be "extremely disappointed in us" if we axed his favorite lyrics on the album.
I have Corey Wills of Chicago band Inspector Owl to thank for the guitar solo in the middle, as I whole-heartedly ripped it out of their song "Clever Girl". Joel's tambourine in the verses was a last minute addition and totally helped to move along the feel of the song.
This song is one of our favorite mixes on the album. It still hits so hard when it comes in, it never fails to make me smile. It came out just the way I hoped it would.
